Twenty years' imprisonment for killing of partner in Vevey
A 38-year-old man with a Kosovar passport has been sentenced by Vevey District Court to 20 years' imprisonment for the killing of his long-term partner. The public prosecutor had requested such a sentence, which the judges have now fully upheld.
The violent crime took place in spring 2023 in the Vaud city. The accused, who had his residence in Germany, had arrived shortly before for a visit to the 38-year-old woman. The two had been in a long-distance relationship for approximately three years. Following fierce altercations, the defendant used an illegal weapon – a knuckleduster with a built-in blade – and killed the woman through multiple stab wounds. In addition to murder, the court found him guilty of a breach of the Weapons Act.
According to the judgment, the partnership was characterised by controlling behaviour and jealousy. The judges accused the convicted man of wanting to control the relationship at any cost – even at the expense of the woman's life. This motive for power was characteristic of femicides.
In addition to imprisonment, the tribunal ordered inpatient therapy as well as expulsion from Switzerland. During the announcement of the decision, which was interpreted into Albanian, the convicted man remained motionless.
