Life sentence for murder of teenager in Solothurn
The district court in Solothurn has sentenced a 22-year-old Swiss man to life imprisonment for the murder of a teenager from Bellach who was 17 years old at the time. The hearing took place on 22 June 2026, with the verdict announced on Tuesday.
The perpetrator had struck his victim with a vehicle in April 2023, then strangled her and finally run her over with a delivery van. The judge justified the sentence by stating that the defendant had acted extremely recklessly.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered inpatient treatment. The judge explained that the man suffered from psychological disorders and must come to terms with his actions. The defendant's behaviour was described as abhorrent.
Following the announcement of the verdict, the defence stated it would not appeal the sentence and accepted the penalty determined by the Solothurn district court.
