The remains were discovered on the previous Sunday in rubbish bags in the Rhine and on the banks nearby. The victim was identified as a 33-year-old man from Burundi who had been living in an asylum accommodation in Stein near the German border and had been reported missing.

The suspect had shared a room with the victim in the same asylum home. During a search of the accommodation, evidence was secured that strengthened suspicion against the fellow resident, according to prosecutors.
