Shortly before 2 am on the night of Saturday, a 19-year-old Afghan from the region was attacked with a stabbing weapon on Via Pelli in Lugano. The perpetrator fled after the incident, as reported by 20 Minuten.

Rescue personnel from Croce Verde Lugano treated the injured man at the scene and transported him by ambulance to hospital. The treating doctors found serious, life-threatening injuries.

In the course of the investigation, police arrested a 20-year-old Italian national with residence in Italy. His precise role in the incident is still being clarified. The investigation is being conducted for, among other things, attempted manslaughter, possibly serious bodily harm, and violation of weapons legislation. The investigation is being led by public prosecutor Roberto Ruggeri. The authorities released no further information for the time being.
