A radiology facility operating in Romandy has suffered two digital intrusions within twelve months. The 3R network saw its computer systems compromised by hackers who demanded a ransom.
In accordance with recommendations from federal authorities, management refused to give in to the pressure. In retaliation, the attackers uploaded confidential files to an obscure part of the internet. These documents subsequently formed the basis for an investigation by Swiss public television.
The media investigation revealed the salaries of some doctors specialising in medical imaging. The amounts mentioned would range between three hundred thousand and over six hundred thousand francs per year. These figures sparked strong public reaction and revived discussions about healthcare expenditure.
Dominique Fournier, chairman of the board of the affected company, spoke publicly for the first time since these revelations. He did not deny the stated amounts, but denounced their decontextualised presentation. He also contested the use of documents obtained through illicit means to fuel public debate.
When asked about taxpayers' outrage at these remuneration levels, the executive defended the integrity of his organisation's management. He rejected any allusion to dubious practices and insisted that the disclosed sums did not reflect the overall situation of the practitioners.
This case highlights the growing threats facing healthcare facilities in terms of cybercrime. It also raises questions about the legitimacy of exploiting stolen information as part of journalistic work.
