Swiss authorities classified the knife attack at a railway station near Zurich as a terrorist act, in which three people were injured. A 31-year-old man with dual Swiss-Turkish citizenship was arrested, who had previously been reported for spreading IS propaganda.

Three people were injured in a knife attack at a railway station in Switzerland. The authorities classified the incident as a terrorist act. The incident occurred on Thursday morning (28 May) at approximately 09:30 at Winterthur railway station, north of Zurich.
Police arrested the alleged perpetrator, a 31-year-old man with dual Swiss-Turkish citizenship, who is from Winterthur. He had previously been reported for spreading propaganda for the terrorist organisation Islamic State.
The Security Director of the Canton of Zurich, Mario Fehr, described the attack as an "abhorrent terrorist act, which was handled very well by police, who managed to prevent something even worse".
Fehr praised the courage of several people present, including a teacher who stood in front of her pupils to protect them before the perpetrator was arrested. "There were various brave people," Fehr emphasised, including the teacher, who behaved "exemplarily".
The Police Commandant of the Canton of Zurich, Marius Wägermann, explained that there had been reports against the suspect in 2015 for spreading propaganda for the terrorist organisation Islamic State. "The motive for this act must be sought in the area of radicalisation and extremism," Wägermann indicated.
Swiss newspaper Blick reported that it had a video showing the man running out of Winterthur railway station and shouting "Allahu Akbar".
The three victims of the attack are being treated in hospital. One person was stabbed in the leg, another in the neck, whilst a third man was injured in the thigh.
