Phone fraud in Müntschemier: police arrest two men at cash handover
An elderly man from Müntschemier alerted police after a fraudulent call. Officers arrested two suspects (23 and 34) at the money collection.
Police apprehend alleged phone fraudsters in Müntschemier caught red-handed
As bernerzeitung.ch reports, an elderly man from Müntschemier received a suspicious call last Wednesday: unknown individuals demanded that he withdraw money from his bank and have it ready for collection.
The man immediately contacted the police. When the alleged fraudsters appeared at his front door shortly afterwards to collect the cash, officers were already waiting. Both suspects – a 23-year-old and a 34-year-old – were arrested on the spot and have been in custody since.
The Bern cantonal police state in a press release that they are currently receiving regular reports of telephone fraud in various forms. They recommend being constantly suspicious of unknown callers as soon as they demand cash or valuables. Such a call should be ended immediately and the incident reported to police.
Additionally, the Bern cantonal police warn against disclosing personal data, passwords or information about one's own financial circumstances over the telephone.
