Fatal Crime in Binningen: Convicted Husband Continues Legal Challenge
A 44-year-old man sentenced to life imprisonment for the killing of his wife in the Basel suburb of Binningen has rejected the verdict. He has filed an appeal, according to the Basler Zeitung.
The Baselland district court found the husband guilty of intentional homicide on 13 May of this year and imposed the maximum penalty. All defence arguments at first instance proved unsuccessful. Since the most severe sentence has already been imposed, the convicted man has, arithmetically speaking, nothing more in additional punishment to risk in a further court review.
A life sentence in Switzerland entails imprisonment until death. Conditional release can be considered at the earliest after 15 years. The canton court will now decide on the appeal.
