Fatal assault in Birr residential area: suspect in custody
A fatal assault occurred in Birr, Canton Aargau, on Wednesday. According to a statement from a spokesperson for Aargau Cantonal Police reported by 20 Minuten, a woman was killed at Wyde 4 in connection with domestic violence. The alleged perpetrator was arrested. According to the cantonal police, it remains unclear whether the suspect was the victim's partner or husband.
The police operation had been underway since approximately 13.30. Multiple patrol cars and unmarked vehicles, as well as numerous police officers, were on site, and the affected area was cordoned off widely.
A resident told 20 Minuten that she had returned from shopping and been stopped by police whilst parking. "They told me that for security reasons I could not park here, but instead at the school," the woman said.
Shortly afterwards, a small girl – estimated to be five to six years old – left the cordoned-off area in the company of police officers. "There is great uncertainty in the neighbourhood because we do not know what happened," reported another witness. The Aargau Cantonal Police said further information would be released at a later time.
