A 41-year-old man has been arrested for two sexual assaults on six-year-old girls in Yverdon-les-Bains. He admitted to the facts and has been placed in provisional detention.

Vaud investigators arrested a 41-year-old man, originally from Tunisia, on Thursday in connection with two cases of child sexual abuse involving six-year-old children in Yverdon-les-Bains. The suspect was taken into custody at his home, located in the North of the canton, and then remanded in custody following a request from the magistrate handling the case.
The first incident dates back to 20 April in a shop in the town centre. The second occurred on 29 May in the toilets of the municipal library. During his detention, the man in question admitted his responsibility in both cases. He did not deny his involvement.
These events had been the subject of complaints filed against unknown persons, followed by criminal proceedings opened by the public prosecutor's office of the northern district of the canton. It was officers from the Vice Squad who managed to track him down after several weeks of investigative work.
The disclosure by RTS on 17 June of the assault committed in the library caused considerable concern in the Vaud town. Two municipal councillors had then approached the municipal executive to request strengthened programmes for affective and sexual education. The co-president of the executive, Carmen Tanner, stated that around ten measures had already been deployed since 2020. Following these events, new measures were adopted: the toilets in the youth space are now only accessible upon receipt of a key, the story room has been closed off, and a person in charge of security has been recruited.
