In 2024, the specialised office for extremism and violence prevention (FSEG) in Winterthur contacted the city police in thirteen cases. In the comparable period of the previous year, there had been only three such incidents.
The facility's current annual report was presented on Monday. In it, city councillor Nicolas Galladé (SP) addresses the challenges of prevention work. He points to the knife attack of 28 May, which deeply shook the city.
The majority of the reports concerned young people who had drawn attention through threats or violent fantasies. In one case, a young person with mental health problems had repeatedly suggested carrying out a massacre at a school graduation ceremony.
A new focus for the office is the phenomenon of the "manosphere". This concerns toxic masculinity ideals, which are frequently linked with misogyny. According to the report, educators are increasingly observing disrespectful behaviour towards female teachers.
