A 26-year-old man is standing trial at Zurich District Court, with investigating authorities accusing him of remaining inactive during two fatal drug incidents in his flat. He faces charges of failure to render assistance and supplying dangerous substances to minors.
The first incident occurred in June 2023. A 15-year-old girl consumed various substances together with the man now on trial, including narcotics and prescription medications. After the minor lost consciousness and lay motionless on the bed, the man initially attempted to revive her, according to the charges. However, rather than alerting professional rescue services, he contacted a work colleague, who gave him little helpful advice and primarily warned him about potential consequences from police. More than three hours passed before the accused contacted the authorities. In the meantime, he had removed the body from his flat to the stairwell of the building.
The second case occurred less than half a year later, again in the accused's premises. An acquaintance consumed opiates and alcoholic beverages, lost consciousness and ultimately succumbed to respiratory paralysis. In this situation too, the flat's occupant is said to have hesitated before promptly calling for help. He moved the lifeless body into the stairwell once again before informing a supervisor. By that point, the acquaintance was already dead.
During police questioning, the 26-year-old gave a different account of events. He claimed that a stranger had placed the deceased in the stairwell, and that he had advised this person to call an ambulance.
The prosecution is seeking a five-year prison sentence. The defence team will present its sentencing request during the course of the trial. The accused was remanded in custody during several phases of the investigation.
