A man with a Kosovar passport who was resident in Germany has been sentenced by Vaud District Court to twenty years' imprisonment for the killing of his partner. The prosecution had requested exactly this sentence, as Watson reports.
The judges ordered that, in addition to the custodial sentence, the convicted man must undergo inpatient treatment and leave Switzerland permanently. When the verdict was read out in his native language, the defendant remained completely unmoved.
Presiding judge Franz Moos pointed to the extraordinary brutality of the act. The perpetrator had demonstrated selfish behaviour by seeking to consolidate his power over the victim even through her death – a pattern frequently observed in femicides.
The violent act took place in spring 2023. The convicted man had been in a long-distance relationship with the woman, then 38 years old, for about three years. Shortly before the act, he had arrived for a visit to her in Vevey. The relationship was considered strained, marked by jealousy and the man's need for control.
During a fierce quarrel, the defendant used an illegal knuckleduster with a built-in blade and inflicted multiple stab wounds on the woman. He was additionally found guilty of illegal possession of a weapon.
