Teenagers speed through Basel – suspected drug trafficking
According to Blick, two 16-year-old Swiss nationals engaged in a dangerous flight from Basel-Stadt cantonal police on Thursday afternoon at around 1.15 p.m. When officers attempted to stop the youths for a traffic check, the pair sped away on a motorcycle.
On the pedestrian crossing in Viaduktstrasse, a woman with a pram narrowly avoided a collision with the fleeing teenagers. The two disregarded several traffic rules and drove at excessive speed through the district.
In the Gundeldingen quarter, they eventually abandoned the motorcycle at Wolfschlucht-Promenade and fled on foot. However, a search initiated immediately proved successful: Basel-Stadt cantonal police were able to apprehend the pair nearby.
During the subsequent search, according to cantonal police, there was a strong suspicion that the duo could be involved in drug trafficking as well as further criminal offences. On instructions from the youth prosecution service, the two teenagers were arrested; investigations are ongoing.
Witnesses – particularly the affected pedestrian with a pram – are asked to contact Basel-Stadt youth prosecution on telephone number 061 267 71 11 or the nearest police station.
