An unusual act of violence occurred in Biel during the night of Wednesday: a single person was attacked by two different groups within a short space of time. Cantonal Police Bern announced on Thursday what had taken place in the early hours of the morning.
Shortly after two o'clock in the morning, officers received an emergency call. A man had been beaten up at the roundabout on Silbergasse. According to investigations so far, five men initially approached him and then attacked him.
The beaten man fled to a nearby pavement. There he was attacked by two further individuals. One of the two is said to have hit the man on the head with a piece of furniture, whilst the other continued with blows. After that, all the assailants escaped unidentified.
Bystanders helped the injured man, provided first aid and called for emergency services. An ambulance took him to a clinic.
Regional investigators from the Public Prosecutor's Office Berner Jura-Seeland are handling the case. Police are appealing for information from witnesses.
