Danko Flores, son of well-known comedian Mauricio Flores, was placed in preventive detention after being arrested at the Quillagua customs checkpoint in the Tarapacá region, according to biobiochile.cl.
The operation took place on 27 October, when Customs officials detected, using a scanner, more than 18 packets of cocaine hidden inside the vehicle that Flores was driving.
A video obtained by the outlet shows how the drug was concealed within the car's dashboard, in a compartment apparently adapted for that purpose. Officials opened the central air duct area of the vehicle, located above the radio, and removed several packages the size of a hand.
The chief prosecutor of Tamarugal, Milton Torres, explained that investigative procedures are continuing with particular attention to the analysis of the detainee's mobile telephone. The investigation also aims to clarify the circumstances of the transportation of the illicit substance: why the drug was being transported outside the region and under what conditions the defendant was carrying it.
The Public Ministry is also working on gathering information to establish any possible links with other people involved in the transportation.
Following a request by the Public Ministry, the court ordered preventive detention for Flores, the most severe precautionary measure contemplated by law. The investigation timeframe was set at 120 days.
