Fake SIJIN agents assault house in Bogotá and are captured by GPS of stolen mobile phone

According to periodismopublico.com, four people who posed as members of the SIJIN entered a house in the San Marcos neighbourhood, Engativá district, by means of a supposed search warrant. The fictitious operation ended with theft of belongings, inappropriate touching of one of the victims and injuries with a sharp weapon inflicted on one of the residents.

The four suspects—three men and a woman—arrived at the property dressed as uniformed officers and claimed to have a court order. The family allowed them entry believing they were legitimate officials. Once inside, they took advantage of the residents' trust to steal mobile phones, jewellery and other valuable items.

Following the incident, the family sought help from the authorities. The location of one of the stolen phones became the decisive lead: by tracking the GPS, uniformed officers traced the device and identified the vehicle in which the suspects were travelling.

The interception took place in Teusaquillo district, where the four were arrested in flagrante delicto. During the procedure, the authorities recovered four mobile phones, jewellery and other belongings of the victims, as well as finding a cache of weapons in the vehicle.

The criminal record of those detained also drew the attention of the authorities. The four have accumulated a combined 44 entries for conduct including criminal conspiracy, theft, carrying firearms, escape of prisoners, bodily injury and damage to others' property. One of them was subject to a house arrest order for the crime of theft at the time of capture.

The four involved were placed at the disposal of the General Prosecutor's Office, along with the confiscated vehicle and recovered items. The criminal proceedings advance for the alleged crimes of theft, violation of another's dwelling and bodily injury.
