Inpec guard shot after finishing shift at Villahermosa prison in Cali
Dragoon Luis Francisco Ramírez Sáchica was murdered on the night of Friday 30 October after finishing his working day at Villahermosa prison in Cali. According to pulzo.com, two armed men approached him in the vicinity of the penitentiary, between Calle 27 and Carrera 29, and shot him. Ramírez Sáchica died at the scene; the attackers managed to flee.
The official had more than 18 years of service at the National Institute of Prisons and Detention (Inpec), an institution in which he was recognised for his good conduct and dedication.
The Ministry of Justice and Law, led by Iván Cancino and under the direction of president Abelardo de la Espriella, published a statement expressing its rejection of the crime and demanding clarification of the case. The ministry emphasised that "no Inpec official should be the object of threats, intimidation or attacks for carrying out their duties" and warned that these acts compromise both institutional integrity and national security.
The ministry also indicated its commitment to coordinating efforts with other authorities to identify those responsible and ensure they are prosecuted through the courts.
From the Office of the Procurator General, Procurator Gregorio Eljach expressed his condolences to the relatives and close ones of the dragoon, and urged the authorities in Cali to investigate the case rigorously to prevent impunity.
The authorities are currently analysing whether the attack on Ramírez Sáchica is linked to threats that have been received by other Inpec officials in different regions of the country. The possible connection between this crime and previous warnings to penitentiary system employees remains under investigation.
