The second defendant in the murder of two people in the Arakapa area has admitted guilt and faces a life sentence at the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol.
Double murder in Arakapa: Life sentence for second defendant after guilty plea
Before the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol, the second person involved in the case of the double homicide committed in July 2024 admitted his guilt. The court imposed a life sentence upon him and will call him to testify as a witness for the prosecution.
The victims, Andréas Kouzoupis and 38-year-old Slovak David Chmelar, were found burnt inside a car on 30 July 2024, on a rural road near Lystrovouno in Limassol. The crime had shocked public opinion across the country.
According to what was heard in court, the convicted man, along with an accomplice, drove a private car to the area of the water tank in Arakapa, carrying a hunting rifle with them. Shortly after 23:30, the two victims arrived at the location in their own vehicle, which was driven by Chmelar.
At the meeting, the convicted man and his accomplice, having planned their action, killed both men with gunshots to the head. It is noted that the particular defendant was not the one who pulled the trigger.
Immediately afterwards, the perpetrators transferred the vehicle with the victims to the Lystrovouno area, pushed it down a dirt road where it crashed into a tree, and then set it on fire with petrol. The vehicle was completely destroyed and the bodies were charred.
The arrest of the defendant took place on 1 August 2024, based on a warrant issued against him. The next hearing has been set for the beginning of next month, where his lawyer will address limited purposes, given that the law provides only one penalty for this offence—life imprisonment.
