A 26-year-old man crashed in Žádlovice in the Šumperk district in the early morning hours. The cause was severe intoxication, with a test revealing 2.84 per mille of alcohol.
The incident occurred on Sunday around one o'clock in the morning. The young man was driving a Toyota vehicle on the route from Loštic towards Žádlovice. However, he was unable to manage the journey – his car first went into the opposite lane, then slid into a ditch, and finally ended up off the road on a grassy slope by a wooden fence.
A witness found the vehicle still running, with the driver sitting at the wheel leaning against it. He complained of pain, so the witness called an ambulance. An ambulance took him to Šumperk Hospital to the surgical ward. "The patient claimed that his head hurt. We recorded no visible injuries. However, due to the high degree of intoxication, communication with him was very difficult," said Lucie Mikisková, spokeswoman for the regional emergency service, to Novinky.cz.
Police officers conducted several breath tests at the scene. All tested positive, with the highest reading reaching 2.84 per mille. Law enforcement officers confiscated the driver's licence at the scene and initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of the offence of driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
