21-Year-Old IS Suspect Arrested at Frankfurt Airport

Arrest Following Failed Jihadist Plan

As n-tv reports, the Federal Prosecutor's Office had a 21-year-old Berlin resident named Joshua W. arrested on Friday evening at Frankfurt Airport. An investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice ordered the implementation of pre-trial detention.

The man is accused of attempted membership in a foreign terrorist organisation and preparation of a serious act of violence endangering the state. According to the authorities, W. travelled from Berlin to Ethiopia in January 2025 in order to travel from there to Somalia. There, according to his own plans, he was to receive military training from the Islamic State for attacks.

After the border crossing into Somalia failed, W. travelled to Pakistan. He was arrested there in February 2025. An arrest warrant against the 21-year-old had been in place since June of the previous year. Upon his arrival in Frankfurt, he was taken into custody by officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office, the Federal Police and the State Criminal Police Office Berlin. It remains unclear whether W. was extradited by the Pakistani authorities or returned to Germany of his own volition.
