How Gina H. lost her composure became visible in early August – on day 20 of a trial that bears the name of a dead child. As the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports, a long queue formed in front of courtroom 2.002 of the Rostock Regional Court, as on every trial day in the "Fabian Trial". Dozens of spectators did not want to miss how the defendant encountered her younger sister – one in leg shackles, the other in the witness stand.
At the centre of the proceedings is the question of whether Gina H. could have been capable of killing a child with six knife wounds. Now she has testified herself for the first time – monotonously, haltingly, quietly.
Who this woman is remains unclear after her testimony. The answers she gave raise new questions: about her past, her emotions, her truth. The court continues to face the task of reconstructing the perpetrator's identity and motive – on the basis of a confession that has so far not been forthcoming.
