Murder trial of Fabian in Rostock: Accused Gina H. denies crime and attacks witnesses
Gina H. has spoken for the first time before the Rostock Regional Court regarding the charges and denied murdering six-year-old Fabian. She accused a neighbour of wanting to "destroy" her.
Accused denies murder of Fabian and questions witnesses
For the first time, defendant Gina H. has spoken before the Rostock Regional Court in the murder trial over the death of little Fabian from Güstrow. According to Google News CH — Crime (de), the 30-year-old denied any involvement in the crime on Monday during a statement lasting around four hours and simultaneously attempted to discredit central prosecution witnesses.
Fabian disappeared on 10 October 2025 from his mother's flat in Güstrow. The prosecution accuses Gina H. of luring the boy and stabbing him at a pond near Klein Upahl. She allegedly returned later to set the corpse on fire. Four days after his disappearance, the dead child was found — by Gina H. herself. In early November, she was arrested.
Fabian was the son of her then ex-partner, who had separated from her in August 2025. The prosecution believes Gina H. thought the boy stood in the way of her intention to resume the relationship. Investigators believe Fabian was abducted and murdered between 11 and 15 o'clock.
Alibi and counter-statement
Gina H. described the events of the day of the alleged crime in detail. According to her account, a farrier was at her property in Reimershagen (Rostock district) in the morning. She then visited a bank in Güstrow, subsequently went for a walk in a forest south of Klein Upahl, and around 13 o'clock drove to a meeting with an acquaintance at Bolzsee. She had already presented this version during the course of the trial so far.
She rejected the accusation that she wanted to get Fabian out of the way. The boy had never stood between her and his father — she had known that she could only have the father "in a package deal" with his son. At the end of her statement, she said: "If I had murdered him, I would certainly have felt like I was murdering my own child." Gina H. has a son of her own.
Serious accusations against neighbour
Gina H. attacked a neighbour from Reimershagen particularly harshly, with whom she claimed to have maintained trusting contact for several years. She accused him of wanting to "destroy" her. The background she provided was as follows: the man had wanted a relationship with her and had harboured hopes after Fabian's father separated from her. When he realised she still wanted to hold onto the old relationship, he had begun to harm her.
With this neighbour, Gina H. had been at the pond in the night before the official discovery was reported. The next morning, she told police that she had found Fabian by chance during a walk because her dog had run to the pond.
The neighbour had originally corroborated the alibi agreed for the day of the alleged crime — but subsequently neither upheld it with the police nor in court. Gina H. now accused him of lying on the witness stand. She denied, among other things, having given him shoes from the day of the alleged crime to store. She also claimed never to have noticed a knife in his shed that he had given to police in October after it had been missing from him for some time. As a witness, he had reported that it had reappeared surprisingly shortly after he asked for help in the search for Fabian.
Gina H. levelled the same accusation — that he had not told the truth — against a second man, with whom she had also been at the pond before the official discovery was reported. Both of them had also allegedly pressured her not to involve the police.
Self-presentation and reactions in the courtroom
In her statement, Gina H. also endeavoured to correct the public image of herself. She complained of the "hate" directed at her on social media. She rejected the accusation that she loved her five horses more than her son as hurtful: her love for her child was far more intense. Nevertheless, she described the horses as her "family" with "unconditional affection" — a comfort that she had found in no person.
She also contradicted the impression that she had maintained numerous relationships with men and manipulated them. However, she admitted to being jealous and demanding absolute fidelity from her partner; when it came to contact with other women, she could become a "predator". At the same time, she admitted to having received suggestive messages and pictures from a friendly neighbour during her relationship with Fabian's father.
The defence counsel stated that the 95-page statement had been drawn up after many conversations with their client, without putting words in her mouth. Solicitor Andreas Ohm judged that Gina H. had been "very honest".
Prosecution and co-plaintiffs disagree
Prosecutor Harald Nowack stated that much from the defendant's presentation could not be reconciled with the course of the trial so far. Christine Habetha, solicitor for Fabian's mother, who is participating in the trial as co-plaintiff, said: "Gina H. is wallowing in her victim role." The lengthy statement was not suitable for refuting the murder charge. It had been foreseeable from the outset that the accused would cast doubt on the prosecution witnesses.
Five further trial dates are scheduled for the proceedings until 10 September. Whether Gina H. will answer further questions from the court beyond that is yet to be decided according to her solicitors.
