Death of basketball player in San Carlos prompts police investigation
The National Police intensified their investigation on Monday into the death of basketball player Yeuri Rodríguez Batista, shot dead on Sunday in the San Carlos sector of the National District, according to elnacional.com.do.
Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesperson for the institution, stated that investigation teams are working in coordination with the Public Ministry to identify, locate and apprehend those responsible. The proceedings include the analysis of security camera footage, interviews with witnesses and a ballistics study of the casings recovered at the scene, which will be compared with evidence from other criminal incidents to establish possible matches.
According to the initial results of the investigation, a single individual arrived at the location on a motorcycle and approached Rodríguez Batista whilst he was installing sound equipment in his vehicle. During a struggle, the attacker fired several shots and fled the scene.
Although one of the initial hypotheses points to an attempted robbery, the authorities have not conclusively established the motive.
