Civil Guard officers succeeded in capturing a subject in Illescas, a municipality in Toledo province, who was fugitive following a crime that occurred in Dominican territory. The information was reported by Spanish media outlet CLMPress.
The detainee, identified by the nickname "Muñingo", is wanted for the murder of a man that took place in December 2022 in a public area of Santo Domingo Este province. According to investigations, the accused struck the head and body of the attack victim several times with a baseball bat. The victim was taken to a hospital where he received treatment, but subsequently died from the injuries sustained.
The arrest warrant was issued by Spain's National Court once it was established that the suspect had not complied with restrictions imposed by the courts. In February of this year, the Dominican National Police became aware of the international request and the breach of judicial safeguards, activating a search to locate the fugitive.
Investigators determined that the man did not leave the house, which suggested he was hiding in the home of a relative located in Illescas. During surveillance, it was verified that he regularly received provisions of food, various items and visits from relatives and friends, all whilst remaining confined within the dwelling.
The arrest was carried out at the end of June. Subsequently, the detainee was placed at the disposal of Spanish judicial authorities to continue with the extradition proceedings requested by the Dominican Republic.
