Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse Captured in Santo Domingo After Remaining in Hiding

In the early hours of Friday 29 May 2026, the National Police captured Stalim C., a 24-year-old Ecuadorian, in the 3 de Julio sector in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, who had an outstanding arrest warrant and a criminal conviction for sexual abuse, according to eldiario.ec.
The operation, named "Zero Impunity 17295", was carried out by the National Judicial Police Investigation Directorate and the National Anti-Crime Brigade Unit (UN-BAC), in the Santo Domingo Este District, 3 de Julio sub-circuit.
Officers acted after receiving information about the possible location of the citizen sought by the courts, who had been in hiding in a residence in the sector. Based on that information, uniformed officers entered the property under the state of exception.
When located, Stalim C. identified himself to the officers. A query of the Integrated Computer System of the National Police of Ecuador confirmed the outstanding arrest warrant and a criminal conviction of 6 years and 8 months of deprivation of liberty, issued by the Criminal Guarantees Court based in the Quitumbe parish, in the Metropolitan District of Quito.
Following judicial confirmation, the detainee was transferred before the competent authority. During his presentation at Police Command, Stalim C. maintained that he was not responsible for the crime and claimed that he was "unjustly accused" and that his "defence did not do a good job". The authorities issued no further comments on those statements nor specified possible pending legal remedies.
According to information known during the proceedings, the victim in the case would have died, a situation that currently forms part of the corresponding legal review.
The National Police stated that the capture forms part of permanent operations aimed at locating persons sought by Ecuadorian justice. The authorities indicated that coordinated operations would continue between intelligence units, Judicial Police and the anti-crime brigade in sectors considered strategic within Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
