Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder in El Tamarindo
A court in Santo Domingo Este handed down a sentence of 20 years' imprisonment against Víctor de la Cruz, known as "el Menor", after accepting a request from the Public Ministry. The defendant was found guilty of the murder of Juan Carlos Bautista, alias "Pucho", which occurred in 2022.
The crime took place in the early morning of 19 May 2022 on Calle Nuestra Señora del Rosario, in the El Tamarindo sector of Santo Domingo Este. According to the investigation led by prosecutor Franklyn Céspedes, Bautista had a dispute with de la Cruz, who was suspected of being involved in mobile telephone theft in the area.
Following the verbal altercation, the victim left the scene. However, the defendant followed him and attacked him with a firearm, shooting him and causing wounds that proved fatal.
