The swift activation of a police operation made it possible to detain four men allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a jewellery shop in Santiago de los Caballeros, according to ultimasnoticias.com.do.

The robbery occurred at around 4:10 p.m. on Monday at an establishment on San Luis street. The four individuals, allegedly armed, burst into the shop and took cash and jewellery from employees before fleeing in a grey Honda CR-V vehicle.

After receiving the alert, the National Police immediately circulated the characteristics of the vehicle and its occupants to units deployed at various points in the city. The pursuit ended minutes later on Avenida Estrella Sadhalá, where officers intercepted the vehicle and arrested the four occupants.

The detainees were identified as Marcos José García de la Cruz, Andy José Castillo Jiménez, Delvinson Luis Restituyo Mejía and Heber Isaac Burgos García.

During the operation, authorities seized RD$36,150 in cash, two United States dollars, 4,895 grams of silver, four silver earrings, four mobile phones, gloves, balaclavas and a pistol without legal documentation with four rounds, a weapon that was allegedly used during the robbery.

The National Police indicated that the money, items, vehicle and other evidence will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry. Investigations are continuing to clarify the circumstances of the case and determine whether the detainees are linked to other criminal acts.
