A court in the Dominican Republic sentenced three senior military commanders to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for defrauding the State of more than 4.5 billion pesos, equivalent to around 75 million dollars, according to abc.es.
The three condemned to 20 years in prison are major general Adán Cáceres Silvestre, general Juan Carlos Torres Robio and colonel Rafael Núñez de Aza. General Julio Camilo De los Santos Viola received a sentence of 15 years in prison.
The Public Ministry described the sentence as "historic", in reference to the scope of the ruling against high-ranking figures within the Dominican military forces.
