Thousands of cannabis plants seized in unprecedented operation in San José de Ocoa
An extensive marijuana plantation was discovered and seized by state officials in a remote area of the municipality of San José de Ocoa. The seizure reached approximately fifteen thousand cannabis plants, making the operation the largest of its kind recorded in the Caribbean nation.
To carry out the intervention, teams deployed unmanned aircraft, officials specialised in combating drug trafficking and members of the prosecutor's office. The use of remotely piloted vehicles made it possible to map the extent of the clandestine crop beforehand prior to the raid.
So far, no arrests related to the discovery have been confirmed, although the relevant agencies are maintaining active investigations to identify those responsible for the illicit cultivation.
