Agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) and the Specialised Directorate for Women's Care and Domestic Violence (DEAMVI) arrested Luis Enrique Everts Marín, who was wanted by judicial order for alleged acts of gender-based violence against his ex-partner, according to acento.com.do.
The arrest was carried out in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office and in compliance with a ruling issued by a competent court. Authorities did not specify the precise circumstances of the reported facts or the coercive measures that could be sought against the accused.
The complaint was filed by Yenifer Crismar Marín Díaz, a Venezuelan national, who went to the appropriate authorities to report the facts she attributes to Everts Marín. The woman also released a video related to the case.
Following his arrest, Everts Marín will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, an agency that will continue the legal proceedings and determine the legal steps to be taken as part of the investigation.
The complainant has received support from the Ministry of Women's Affairs and DEAMVI, entities responsible for providing psychological support, legal guidance and protection to victims of gender-based violence.
DEAMVI is the unit of the National Police responsible for investigating and following up on complaints of gender-based violence, domestic violence and sexual offences, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Women's Affairs. Social organisations and state bodies have repeatedly pointed out the need to strengthen prevention, complaint and protection mechanisms for women affected by this type of violence.
