A 36-year-old individual who had fled Dominican justice was apprehended on US soil and subsequently returned to national territory. His name is Yan Michel Gil, nicknamed "Capital", who now must face criminal proceedings for the violent deaths of two people.
The detention was carried out through a coordinated effort between members of the OCN-INTERPOL in the Dominican capital and police forces of the United States. Gil arrived at Las Américas International Airport on a federal flight and was subsequently taken to the facilities of the Haina Holiday Reception Centre to comply with necessary migration requirements, in conjunction with INTERPOL and other official entities.
One of the crimes attributed to him took place on 26 September 2021 in a rural area of Moca, Espaillat province. During an unauthorised gathering in the Villa Dura area, El Perú, Estancia Nueva, Carlos Manuel Díaz Vargas was struck by firearm projectiles that caused his death. The investigation indicates that Gil acted alongside José de Jesús Jiménez Cruz—already brought before the courts—and an accomplice only known as "Damián" who remains at large. The judicial warrant supporting his capture in this matter is number 598-01-2021-SARR-00869.
The second incident attributed to him occurred on 5 November 2019 in Herrera, a sector of Santo Domingo. On that occasion, Félix Manuel Rodríguez Castellanos, also known as "Felima", lost his life. The arrest warrant related to this episode is 2019-TAUT-07844.
For now, the accused remains in custody under the surveillance of law enforcement agents and will shortly be presented before prosecutors so that formal proceedings on the cases can be initiated.
The police force highlighted that it will continue to promote work in partnership with foreign agencies and will not cease in the pursuit of those who attempt to evade their legal responsibilities.
