Dominican extradited to US for drug trafficking and money laundering

The Dominican Republic extradited David Armando Brito Brito, alias "el Jamaquén", to the United States, accused of being part of a criminal organisation dedicated to drug trafficking, money laundering and other crimes, according to diariolibre.com.
The transfer was carried out under custody from Las Américas International Airport bound for Puerto Rico, where Brito Brito is to appear before a US court to answer the charges against him.
According to the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), "el Jamaquén" faces charges for continuing criminal organisation, conspiracy to import five kilogrammes or more of cocaine into the United States from a location outside that territory, possession of firearms and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The Dominican was extradited under Decree 346-26, after being captured in May of this year during Operation PT7. As part of that operation, more than 30 raids were executed simultaneously in sectors of the National District, Santo Domingo Este and La Altagracia province.
The handover was coordinated by the General Prosecutor's Office (PGR) and special units of the DNCD, with the support of the US Marshals Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the US Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS).
Dominican authorities noted that the extradition is part of legal cooperation and security agreements between both countries to combat organised crime. The process, they highlighted, is the result of bilateral information exchange aimed at locating and capturing fugitives linked to crimes such as drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, homicide and rape.
