Dominican extradited to US for fentanyl trafficking and money laundering in Massachusetts

According to infobae.com, Frank Maiky Baez Guerrero, a Dominican citizen aged 30, was extradited to the United States following an order issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Dominican Republic. His delivery to US federal agents took place at Las Américas International Airport (AILA-JFPG) in Santo Domingo.
Baez Guerrero faces formal charges before a Massachusetts court for trafficking in fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as for conspiracy in money laundering. The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) stated that the accused had allegedly been part of a criminal enterprise engaged in both the distribution of illicit substances and illegal financial operations.
The extradition process was initiated following a judicial request from the United States and was formalised within the framework of bilateral cooperation in criminal justice matters. Baez Guerrero had been captured in March in the municipality of Baní, in the south-east of the country, and remained in custody until Dominican authorities completed the required procedures for his transfer.
The DNCD affirmed that the case reflects the "broad commitment to cooperation" between the governments of the Dominican Republic and the United States in the fight against drug trafficking and associated crimes. The authorities emphasised that bilateral coordination is essential for identifying, capturing and extraditing individuals linked to transnational criminal organisations.
Second case in less than two weeks
On 8 May, another Dominican citizen was extradited, this time to Puerto Rico. Miguel Isaac Miguel Jiménez was transferred by special DNCD units to the same international airport, where he came into the custody of US federal agents.
Miguel Jiménez is sought by the Court of First Instance of Puerto Rico on charges of first-degree murder, carrying and illegal use of a firearm, and supplying weapons to third parties, in violation of that territory's laws, according to the EFE news agency citing a DNCD statement.
The authorities characterised that extradition as "another important result of the solid bilateral cooperation" between both countries in matters of security, prosecution of organised crime and apprehension of international fugitives.
