Spanish authorities captured on 8 January in Aranda de Duero, Burgos, an individual from the Dominican Republic who was a fugitive from justice in his nation. The arrest followed a red notice from Interpol activated during mid-2025.

The accused allegedly caused the death of a victim during a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Dominican territory in 2023. Following the accident, the courts of his country imposed procedural restrictions on him, which he disobeyed by leaving the Caribbean archipelago and settling in European territory.

Agents of the Iberian police force, with support from the specialised unit for tracking fugitives belonging to the General Police Headquarters for Judicial Police, managed to locate the fugitive's whereabouts. The arrest was carried out in the Burgos locality after intensifying tracking efforts.

Once in custody, he was brought before judges of the National Court, who ordered his preventative imprisonment. He currently remains confined in a Spanish penitentiary centre whilst the procedures for his return to the Dominican Republic are processed, where he will have to answer before the courts for the death of the person affected in the accident.
