A man born in the Dominican Republic was taken into custody in the Spanish town of Illescas, which belongs to the province of Toledo. The arrest came after an investigation spanning several weeks and ends a flight that lasted four years.
The individual, popularly known as "Muñingo", is wanted by the courts of his native country for a murder that occurred in December 2022. On that occasion, in the province of Santo Domingo Este, he dealt a brutal beating to a compatriot using a baseball bat as a weapon. The victim suffered serious head and body trauma; despite medical intervention, he died days later.
The maximum sentence that could be imposed on him in his country amounts to three decades of imprisonment.
After committing the crime, the accused crossed the Atlantic Ocean and settled in Spanish territory. There, in February of this year, authorities of the receiving country became aware that an order from the National Court existed requesting his extradition to the Dominican authorities. It was also reported that he had violated the conditions imposed by that court.
Investigators spent weeks tracking his movements. They soon confirmed that the fugitive was completely avoiding going out into open spaces. Enquiries indicated that he remained confined in the house of a family member in Illescas, where food and other supplies were regularly brought to him. In addition, he frequently received visits from people in his close circle.
In late June, police officers raided the property and carried out the arrest. The apprehended man was immediately handed over to judicial authorities so that his return to the Caribbean country could be processed.
