The action, carried out with support from unmanned aerial vehicles, personnel specialised in narcotics and representatives from the Public Prosecutor's Office, has been described as the largest intervention of its kind ever recorded in national territory. The operation was carried out in a rugged region of the aforementioned municipality, located in the southern province of the same name. The mountainous terrain of that locality has historically presented a challenge for institutions tasked with combating illicit crops intended for the trade in controlled substances.
Coordination between different state entities made it possible to overcome the difficulties inherent to the geography of the area. Remote-controlled aircraft facilitated reconnaissance of the terrain and planning of the security operation deployed on the ground.
