A sergeant major of the Armed Forces was detained this Wednesday to serve a sentence of imprisonment for the murder of a citizen that occurred almost three years ago in the capital.
The apprehension of Reynaldo Cordero Santana took place at a military base located on the Duarte Highway, at kilometre 25, within the municipality of Pedro Brand, according to reporting by Noticias SIN. The procedure was carried out by Ucaprec, the specialised unit responsible for locating fugitives and convicted persons.
The uniformed man must spend a decade incarcerated after being found responsible for the death of Michael Jorge, an incident that took place on 29 September 2023 on a street in the Perantuen neighbourhood, in Arroyo Hondo. Experts from Inacif concluded that the death resulted from a projectile fired from a firearm.
The detention order was issued by the authority responsible for enforcing criminal penalties in the National District, after the Second Chamber of the country's highest court declared the sentence final.
In the same case, another individual was sentenced, known as Luciano José Berroa Nina or by the nicknames "Viejo" and "Viejebo", who is already serving a twenty-year sentence at the Najayo penitentiary centre. Investigations determined that both participated jointly in the crime.
The judicial authorities emphasised that the decisions of the courts will be enforced without distinction of rank or institution.
