A man nicknamed Muñingo was taken into custody in late June in Illescas, a town in the province of Toledo, Spain. The arrest followed a request from Dominican justice authorities, who are seeking him for a crime that occurred in late 2022.

The violent incident took place in the province of Santo Domingo Este. There, the now-detained man assaulted another person in the street and struck him repeatedly with a baseball bat, hitting him in both the face and the rest of his body. Although emergency services attended to the injured man, he died days later.

In his country of origin, the accused faces a sentence that could reach 15 years in prison.

Spanish law enforcement became aware of the case in February, when the National Court processed the extradition request. It was also established that the fugitive had violated the obligations that had been imposed on him. For weeks, officers verified that he never went outside, which indicated to them that he remained shut inside a family property. From there, he received food, everyday materials and occasional visits from acquaintances.

The operation culminated in his capture in the latter part of June. Subsequently, he was brought before the courts so that his extradition to the Caribbean authorities could be determined.
