Fugitive Who Escaped Rafey Prison While Serving 30-Year Sentence Captured in Santiago
The National Police recaptured in Santiago de los Caballeros a detainee who had been a fugitive for several weeks after escaping from the Rafey Men's Correction and Rehabilitation Centre, according to deultimominuto.net. The arrested man was serving a 30-year sentence for aggravated murder and robbery.
The detainee was identified as José Félix García Núñez, alias "Félix 30", aged 51. Agents from the Division of Investigation of Crimes and Offences Against Persons carried out the capture in execution of an order issued by the Second Chamber of the Criminal Sentence Enforcement Court of the Santiago Judicial Department.
According to records from the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC), García Núñez managed to escape from the facility on 8 May 2025, the date from which authorities had been actively searching for him.
The judicial file establishes that he was sentenced in 2015 to 30 years of major imprisonment after being found guilty of aggravated murder and robbery. The sentence was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Justice, becoming final. The recaptured individual also has prior police records for murder and robbery.
Following his arrest, García Núñez was handed over to the Co-ordination of the Fugitive Capture Department of the Santiago Prosecutor's Office for the corresponding legal proceedings.
