Juan Díaz López, 34 years old, is the suspected perpetrator of the homicide. His victim was identified as Ramón López, 67 years old, who worked as a day labourer in agricultural and construction work.
According to witnesses and family members cited by Univision, a verbal confrontation occurred between the two men on the day of the incident. The nephew had occupied the family home for approximately one month, and the uncle demanded that he vacate the property.
Witnesses reported that the attacker first struck the victim with a pipe. Subsequently, after causing his death, he used a machete to sever his head. The scene was captured in images showing the suspected murderer carrying the beheaded body, whilst a head lay on the ground.
The horror did not end with the murder. After carrying the corpse, the attacker returned to the yard to collect his uncle's head and place it alongside the rest of the body inside the victim's home, according to documentation by the media outlet.
Family members of both men expressed their shock. One relative noted that the mother of the suspected perpetrator is devastated by the death of her brother at the hands of her own son. Other neighbours described the scene as something from a film, given the brutality of the act.
Police authorities apprehended the suspect following an operation at the same house where the incident occurred. During the arrest, officers used a stun gun to subdue him, as he was cornered.
At his court appearance, the tribunal denied him bail. The accused remained silent as he left the hearing. According to family members, the man showed signs of mental instability and allegedly attempted to justify his actions by claiming that his uncle had entered the home with aggressive intentions.
