Drug production facility dismantled in south Guayaquil: 50 kg of cocaine and two arrested

According to extra.ec, two people were arrested on the afternoon of Tuesday, 28 July in the Santa Mónica neighbourhood in south Guayaquil, on suspicion of involvement in the illicit trafficking of controlled substances. The area is identified as an area of activity for the criminal organisation Freddy Krueger, to which the two arrested individuals are believed to be associated.
Major Freddy Delgado, head of the Anti-drugs Investigation Department for zone 8, reported that one of those detained has nine previous criminal convictions: six for robbery and three for drug trafficking.
Through investigative efforts, officers located the residence where a clandestine drug storage, cutting and distribution centre was operating. At the site, they seized at least 50 kilogrammes of cocaine hydrochloride and one kilogramme of cannabis, along with a metal press used to reduce the purity of the substance.
"These places are commonly known as 'kitchens' because they heat the drug there and mix it with other components to reduce the purity of the substance and thus obtain a greater quantity," Delgado explained.
During the operation, between 70 and 80 motorcycles approached the site to intimidate uniformed officers and fire on them and the police vehicles. Major Delgado indicated that, fortunately, no officer was injured.
The seized drugs were destined for domestic consumption, although authorities indicated that its economic value had not yet been determined.
