Fourth Bellavista Prison Escapee Recaptured Following Citizen Alert
Ecuadorian police recaptured a fourth inmate from the six who escaped nearly three weeks ago from the Bellavista Social Rehabilitation Centre in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas on Friday, 30 October, according to primicias.ec.
The detainee, identified as Damián J., was located in the Puerto Limón parish at 13:30 on Friday, thanks to a citizen alert combined with intelligence and investigation operations. Colonel Alex Silva, police commander in Santo Domingo, confirmed the operation.
The escape took place on 12 October, when the six inmates opened a hole in the wall of a cell on the second floor of the maximum-security area. The opening connected to a pipe duct and the rear of the pavilion, which allowed them to escape without being detected immediately.
The first two escapees were recaptured two days after the escape. With the detention of Damián J., four of the six prisoners have been placed back into custody, whilst the other two remain at large.
Interior Minister John Reimberg announced that the recaptured inmates will be transferred to El Encuentro maximum-security prison.
