A police operation in Urdesa resulted in the seizure of three weapons, ammunition and other evidence. No arrests were confirmed.
Operation in Urdesa yields nearly 700 cartridges and weapons seized
A National Police operation in the Urdesa sector, north of Guayaquil, resulted in the seizure of three 9-millimetre pistols, 698 cartridges of various calibres and other evidence linked to illicit activities, according to extra.ec. The intervention took place on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
The procedure, identified as Operation Zero Impunity 27-811, included the inspection of a property in the area. Officers found, in addition to the three firearms, two magazines and five metal pieces with characteristics similar to gun barrels. The 698 cartridges seized correspond to different calibres.
Interior Minister John Reimberg announced the results through his X account. "We continue working," he wrote at the end of his message, a phrase he frequently uses in his posts about security operations.
Both the weapons and evidence were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the corresponding judicial process. At the time of publication, official entities did not confirm whether the operation resulted in any arrests.
The National Police also noted that, between 17 and 23 August, it carried out 908 operations nationwide as part of the 3D operational strategy. As a result of those interventions, 412 people were arrested, including one individual classified as a Matter of Relevant Penal Interest.
Actions that week also affected 38 cells of criminal organisations, including Los Lobos, Los Lagartos, Los Tiguerones, Las Águilas, Los Choneros and R7. Among the objects seized during that period were 139 firearms and 8,921 cartridges.
