Units of the National Police apprehended an individual nicknamed Hamilton in Esmeraldas territory, whose full names are Hamilton Alexander S. A. The operation was part of a police initiative called Operation Atlas 182, according to reporting by El Universo.
Authorities indicate that the detainee allegedly participated in activities of a local illegal organisation known as La Carbonera. Additionally, he is under investigation for suspected cooperation with the armed faction on the other side of the border called Frente Oliver Sinisterra.
The man was wanted by a judicial authority in San Lorenzo, which had issued a detention order against him relating to a murder. The arrest was made when agents located and recognised him after he had sustained injuries in a shootout between rival factions: La Siate and La Carbonera.
In the region, patrols and security operations continue with the aim of reducing violent incidents in areas recording a high number of crimes.
