Units of Ecuador's Navy intercepted a vessel in international waters of the Pacific Ocean and confiscated approximately 2.2 tonnes of controlled substances. In the operation, authorities detained six people who were on board.
The seizure was carried out as part of patrols conducted by the naval institution to combat drug trafficking. The detainees and the seized cargo were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to continue the corresponding investigations.
According to a report by Diario Las Américas in its edition of 13 July 2026, the operation represents one of the most significant seizures made by Ecuador so far this year in international waters.
The authorities have not revealed the nationality of the detainees nor the final destination of the vessel. The investigation remains open to determine possible links with transnational drug trafficking networks.
