Man shot dead in Puerto Azul neighbourhood in Guayaquil; his wife witnessed the attack

According to primicias.ec, Pedro Pablo C. was murdered on 31 July 2026, at around 16:00, as he arrived at his residence in the Puerto Azul neighbourhood, located on the road to the coast, in the north-west of Guayaquil.
According to information from the National Police, the victim had just got out of his car when armed men intercepted him and shot him repeatedly until he died.
The wife of Pedro Pablo C. was also approaching the neighbourhood in another vehicle at the time of the attack. The driver accompanying her attempted to help the injured man but was shot during the confrontation. After the attackers fled, the woman took her partner to a health clinic, where doctors confirmed his death.
Until the publication of this report, the authorities had not released information about the possible motive for the crime or whether the victim had a criminal record.
The Puerto Azul administration stated that the attack occurred on Calle Matilde Amador Santistevan and indicated that it immediately activated its emergency protocol. It also handed over security camera footage and access records to the National Police as part of the investigation. The neighbourhood also announced reinforcement of access controls and internal surveillance over the next 48 hours.
Two days earlier, an incident with similar characteristics was recorded in the parish of Posorja: a man transported his brother's body in his vehicle to the morgue in Guayaquil. According to preliminary information, both were fishermen who had set out to fish from Puerto El Morro and are believed to have been attacked by alleged pirates, who stole their vessel and are believed to have killed one of them.
