The National Police seized a tanker vehicle loaded with 3,900 gallons of liquid fuels derived from hydrocarbons (CLDH) in the Pascuales sector, north of Guayaquil, according to eltelegrafo.com.ec. In the operation, carried out on 30 July 2026, two men allegedly linked to the illegal stockpiling and transportation of hydrocarbons were arrested.
The procedure resulted from several investigative steps conducted by agents from the National Directorate for Investigation of Judicial Police. The enquiries made it possible to locate a property that is believed to have been used to store and transport fuel irregularly.
At the time of the intervention, officers found two people guarding the premises. The arrested individuals were identified as Cristian H., aged 18, and Kevin H., aged 29. Both were remanded to the custody of the competent authority for the respective hearing and the conduct of legal proceedings.
As part of the evidence gathered, the Police retained the tanker and the total of 3,900 gallons of CLDH seized. The authorities will need to determine the origin, destination and intended use of the confiscated fuel.
The institution stated that it will continue to deploy operations against the stockpiling, transportation and illegal smuggling of fuels, activities which, according to the authorities, can finance and sustain the logistics of criminal structures. The case remains under investigation.
