Fugitive wanted for arms trafficking captured in southern Guayaquil

A citizen sought by Ecuadorian justice for five years was arrested in the Centenario circuit, in Guayaquil's southern district, according to extra.ec. The man had an active arrest warrant for alleged illegal trafficking of firearms, chemical, nuclear or biological weapons.

The case dates back to 2021, when National Police officers raided a residence in Guayaquil on suspicion that controlled substances were being stored there. During the operation they found two domestically manufactured weapons, cash and a significant quantity of narcotics which, according to the police institution, "were ready for distribution".

Investigations carried out following that raid "established the alleged involvement of the now detained man with the property that was seized", the Police indicated. However, the man was not at the location at the time of the operation and appeared to have remained in hiding from authorities to avoid being located.

Since then, specialised units have carried out sustained operations to find his whereabouts. Investigative proceedings eventually allowed them to locate him in the south of the city, where he was arrested.

The detainee will be presented before the competent judicial authorities.
