Three injured in shooting at birthday party in Guayaquil
In the early hours of 11 July 2026, a group of armed men entered a residence in the Las Malvinas sector, south of Guayaquil, where a birthday celebration was taking place. The attack left three people injured, two of them in delicate health condition.
The attackers opened fire on the house, causing damage to nearby buildings and to a parked vehicle. The party guests attempted to take shelter as the shooting continued.
At the scene, forensic technicians collected more than 80 bullet cartridge cases. The projectiles corresponded to 9-millimetre weapons and 5.56-calibre rifles.
Shortly before this incident, another individual had been injured in a violent episode in the same area. Investigators are analysing whether there is a connection between both events and whether the same attackers were involved.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting could be a reprisal for the murder of a Las Malvinas resident that occurred on 10 July. The hypothesis is being examined that the attack is part of a dispute between criminal organisations for control of the area.
